Model Teacher

A Rossendale student is on her way to her dream career after walking away from the catwalk in favour of teaching.

ag6 student Alex Stokes, of Lime Tree Grove in Rawtenstall has already modelled in a number local fashion shows, including the Alder Grange Aspiration Fund fashion show and ‘Festival’ fashion show, organised in partnership with Award winning Rossendale-based retailer Sunday Best.

But the 17 year-old has decided that her heart lies in a career in teaching after she secured outstanding AS results and work experience.    Alex studied AS level English Literature, English Language, History and French at ag6 achieving 2As, B and a C, and plans to study English with French at either York or Liverpool university.

Olympic Honour for Josh

One of our ag6 students has been honoured with the task of carrying the Olympic Flame next year.  Headteacher Iain Hulland and Head of School David Hampson nominated Alder Grange Community and Technology School pupil Josh Simpson for the honour for his commitment to sport and his local community.

Name game for new nursery

Two local schools are appealing to local residents to help them name its state-of-the-art crèche facility.

St Paul’s Constable Lee CE Primary School has teamed up with Alder Grange Community and Technology School to open a new purpose built nursery in the New Year. The person who comes up with the winning name will receive dinner for two at the Red Hall near Bury.

Grease is the Word

A cast of budding performers from a Rawtenstall school are bringing an iconic high-school love story to life.

Alder Grange Community & Technology School will kick off its production of the classic Broadway musical Grease on Tuesday 15th with performances running until Thursday 17th November at 7:30pm, in the sixth form’s state-of-the-art media studio. 

Year 11 pupils Claudia Adshead and Jack Gill-Burden will play the lead roles of Sandy and Danny.

Poppy Appeal

A Rossendale school hosted a non-uniform day with a difference to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal. Alder Grange Community & Technology school encouraged all of its students to ditch their school uniforms for the day in favour of another uniform.  Students who are a members of a uniformed group were asked to turn up to lessons in that particular uniform, while everyone else at the school wore red, in aid of raising money for the British Legion.

GCSE Results 2011 - The Best Yet!

Many congratulations to the Alder Grange Class of 2011. You have achieved the best results in the school’s history so far.

· 85% of you scored at least 5 A*-C grades – up another 4% on last year, up 8% on 2009 and 15% on 2008.

· 57% of you achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Maths – equalling the previous “high”.
